Went for weekend break to Ravenstone Hotel, booking in was an absolute breeze with receptionist being very helpful and efficient. Room was excellent with four poster bed and spa bath, clean and beautifully appointed. Views from room across fell to Bassentwaite Lake. Great staff in restaurant with good food and not presented like a tower proper cooking! Catered for all dietary needs including gluten free, dairy etc. included even the canapes before hand and petit fours after dinner. Comfortable and restful hotel definitely one to return to

We have just returned from a weekend break at the hotel. This was the first time that we have been to this area and we were not disappointed, From the moment we arrived and were taken to our rooms the service from all of the staff was exceptional. Everyone was friendly and attentive and nothing was a problem for them. The food was fantastic, the rooms were spotless and the little extra touches made our weekend just that bit more special. The wonderful lounge where we had our pre-dinner drinks and canapes and the cosy bar with the log fire was fantastic and I would definitely recommend the hotel to everyone as THE place to stay when coming to the lake district. We are certainly looking forward to returning.
Thank you

We wanted to take a short break for my Husbands Birthday and didn't want to drive too far so we booked Ravenstone Hotel in the Lakes as the reviews i had read all semed really good. We had a fantastic stay, the food was extremely good, the staff really friendly and helpful and the hotel just had a lovely, friendly, warm feel about it. (Lillian's homemade marmalades and preserves served at Breakfast are gorgeous!!!) We booked with late rooms and got a complete bargain. I would highly recommend this hotel. A big thank you to everyone at the Ravenstone for such a great stay.

this is the sixth or seventh time I have stayed at the Ravenstone over the past few years and I have always found a friendly and warn welcome, excellent food and most certainly value for money. Over the year the owners have worked hard and very effectively to constantly improve the experience while not losing the essentially 'familiar' atmosphere which they have created.

we got a last minute deal and it was excellent value. we were kindly given a room upgrade at no extra charge. our room was lovely with a beautiful view over the lake.the service was very professional yet informal. real fire in bar was lovely. the communal rooms were full of character. last but certainly not least the food was fantastic and there was plenty of variation even for someone like me who does not eat meat. my husband said the lamb shank was the kind of food that was so gorgeous it made him smile! (not an everyday occurance)!!! communal areas really quiet - would possibly benefit from some background music. we found other guests to be friendly and enjoyed chatting with them. would definitely recommend hotel to others. thank you.

We arrived at the hotel on Thursday and were shown to our room number 15 it was well presented with flat screen TV modern bathroom with lovely tub and shower over the bath (Plenty of hot water) and under floor heating very cosy after a day walking in the lakes. The room was snug and warm with lots of storage space for clothes(Hiking booots walking sticks, cameras etc)) and the next morning when we looked out of the window in daylight offered uninterrupted views of Bassenthwaite lovely on a cold crisp January morning.
The hotel was very nice with a large panelled lounge and a very snug bar with roaring coal fire selling ales wine & spirits leading onto a large games room with snooker, poole and table tennis all free to hotel guests and the restaurant was equally charming and at breakfast afforded the great views over the valley we had from our bedroom.
But the best feature of the Hotel was its food, it was excellent the breakfast was just right a good selection of cooked items I had the full English every morning and enjoyed it thoroughly my wife tried and enjoyed the smoked fish and found it to be very tasty, but the four course evening meal was excellent good choice well cooked and sourced locally, providing fresh meat, fish and vegetables, and even though I am not a big desert fan it was a clean plate every night.
The Hotel was in a great location 10 minutes from Keswick and on the main road to Grasmere and Windermere but if you like walking you can leave the car at the Hotel and walk to Dodd Wood and thence climb Skiddaw Peak. We had a fantastic weekend in the Lakes made very special by the Ravenstone Hotel and its owners and attentive staff, we will be retuning in the not too distant future all being well

Another short visit to this cosy and welcoming hotel - it seems even better to "come home to Ravenstone" after a wet day on the fells - the drying room was a welcome and well used facility.
Some may think that the remoteness of this hotel is a minus point, but the reality is that you simply don't want to wander anywhere else in the evenings as the cosy bar, splendid lounge, games room and restaurant are more than enough to keep you relaxed and happy. I didn't think that it could get better but I was wrong. Andrew, Debra and their team seem to up the standards year upon year. We'll be back for sure.

This was our second visit to this hotel, both times for five nights. We were in the same room each time which was very clean and well appointed. It was quiet and very peaceful - just what we needed to relax. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly - including the other guests! The situation is perfect for exploring the Western Lakes with goods walks on the doorstep. The food is amazing and plentiful but far too tempting if you are watching your waistline!

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Ravenstone recently. It was a last minute booking having discovered the hotel from an advert in the coeliacs magazine "Crossed Grain" as Hazel was recently diagnosed with coeliac disease. Like others before us we had experienced the difficulties of eating out with confidence and taking hotel breaks. The Ravenstone was wonderful. The menu was extensive, all the staff were caring, thoughtful and knowledgeable - we were able to select from the menu with complete confidence. The packed lunches were well received as they removed the difficulty of finding a gluten free meal. We both ate exceedingly well.Overall we had a very comfortable stay - pleasant surroundings, room, excellent staff - a very welcome return to the Lake District having moved from Preston to Bucks several years ago. Thank you very much - we look forward to a return stay in the near future.

Took a chance on a late booking and have to say very pleasantly surprised. Billed as a two star but really dont know why as food and service in particular were more of a four star standard. Had a basic double room but this was extremely clean and enjoyed extra touches usually reserved for a higher standard room. Toiletries and tea/coffee were most welcome. Nothing was overlooked even down to bottle of radox muscle soak to welcome weary walkers on their return! Would highly recommend this hotel. Only downside a little bit out of the way but this really didnt present a problem for us.

We have just enjoyed our third stay at the Ravenstone Hotel in less than a year - that shows how much we enjoy it. Andrew and Debra and all the staff go out of their way to make the whole stay most enjoyable. The food cannot be faulted and the choice for a Gluten free diet is excellent. We especially enjoyed our stay last Christmas -just like a family gathering - good food, not noisy or "organised" but just what you need to relax and savour the pleasures of the season. We have already booked for this Christmas - but it is half full already, so don't delay if you plan to join us there!

My wife and I had a fantastic time at the Ravenstone for our wedding anniversary. During our stay I over heard Andrew telling another guest that their moto was "...you don't get a second chance to make a first impression...", and they certainly live to that moto. Our initial reaction the the hotel and especially the Osprey room we had was great, and the quality of the food in the restaurant was quite honestly second to none. Please, please try the fillet, it was phenomenal.

We stayed at The Ravenstone Hotel in August 2008. For us, the hotel was faultless: clean with attention to detail, the food was excellent, and quickly served the location and views, wonderful and the whole atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We stayed in the superior four poster room - a large room, with fantastic views - would highly recommed! There was also a folder in our room with every piece of local information that anyone could want, from emergency numbers to dentists. We have not found this always to be the case in other hotels that we have stayed in.
We hope to return in the future and thank Brenda and Andrew for a very enjoyable week.

We will return and are recommending The Ravenstone to all our friends. Our thanks to everyone for a memorable stay.

We have stayed at the Ravenstone Hotel about seven times and have no complaints about anything, the food is very good and the rooms are lovely and clean with a great view. Stayed in the new spa room No.18 this weekend 9th -11th May 08, the room is beautifully decorated with a four poster bed and in the bathoom with it's whirlpool bath it was nice to relax in after having a hectic day. Also Andrew and Debra and staff are very helpful nothing is to much trouble if you need any information.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Ravenstone Hotel and I cannot wait to go back. Everybody is friendly and nothing is too much trouble, the food is delicious and the service is excellent. Another bonus is you can walk to the Osprey viewpoint, it is only 1 mile away! I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel.

Had a great weekend walking and the hotel was perfect - quiet, clean, freshly decorated, good service, excellent food - overall great value for money. We will definitely come again. No osprey as they had moved their nest site but hey - another time!

I have recently been diagnosed with Coeliac disease where for medical reasons I need a special diet. A trip to the Lakes was the first time I had stayed away from home since the diagnosis and I was really nervous about how I was going to eat out again. I went for a meal with friends on the 27th April at the Ravenstone Hotel and would just like to pass on my thanks to the staff. They clearly understood the implications of my diet and made a special effort to cater for my needs. I felt included, reassured and confident. It was a lovely experience for my first meal out of the house and it was such a relief. Many thanks to all waiting and catering staff that evening - it meant a lot to me. Sincerely Louise.

If two teenage boys can say that they had a great time in the games room, looked forward to all the meals and asked if we can go back next time, that says it all for me. P.S. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay too, many thanks. Looks like we'll be back for another yomp once legs have recovered!

The food and hospitality we received at the Ravenstone was second to none, we were a group of nine celebrating a Ruby Wedding Anniversary, Debbie, Andrew and their team where helpful and accommodating. The celebrating couple had the four posters superior room which was amazing, the views over the lake were breath taking and the room itself was beautifully decorated and well worth the extra payment. The only negative was that the single room was very small and the shower was a disappointing dribble. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful 3 days at the Ravenstone over the Easter break. The hotel was very comfortable and the food was of the highest quality. The full english breakfast was certainly more than enough to keep me going onto thee summit of Skiddaw and also on the Grisedale horseshoe. Evening meals were ample in quantity but excellent in quality. A special mention must be made of the sticky toffee puddding (including the coeliac version). The coeliac menu was as good as I have seen anywhere. Thanks for a relaxing and restful getaway.
